Kingston WritersFest returns October 1–4 this year, with a variety of events for both readers and writers.
This year's festival kicks off on September 30 with "Sculpted by Storms: Michelle Good in Conversation with Shelagh Rogers"—a dialogue between Michelle Good, author of Five Little Indians, and Shelagh Rogers, at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. A co-production with Lodge Pole Arts Alliance, the evening revolves around a conversation about Good's upcoming and highly anticipated novel, Eliza Sunshine—a family tale that weaves three generations of Cree women together through story, survival, and the land itself.
In addition to the conversation, there will be an exclusive musical performance by singer-songwriter Kym Gouchie performed live at the event.
Following the kick-off event, the festival this year boasts over fifteen Authors Onstage events with discourse on a wide range of topics from personal essays to modern myths over the span of the four days. Starting off strong on Thursday, October 1 at 10:30 am to noon, Beyond the Veil of Things is a talk focused on three fantasy novels by Three-time Aurora Award-winner Kate Heartfield, Sophie Hannan, and Rebecca Hirsch Garcia.
Then, at 1:30 pm to 3 pm, Odds, Ends, and Exile: Essays in Focus explores the personal essay as an incredible form of prose that informs, delights, and stirs the mind through a conversation between award-winning writers Richard Kelly Kemick and Jamaluddin Aram.
These are just two of the many “Authors onstage” events running from October 1 to 4 at the Kingston Marriott in downtown Kingston.
In addition to the Authors Onstage events, a variety of Writers Studio and Salon Series events will be taking place throughout the four-day festival, with inspiring talks and workshops that will inspire both amateur and professional writers alike. These events cover a multitude of topics, including writing short stories, poetry, screenwriting, and other relevant and engaging topics.
