1. What is Forever Hip?

Forever Hip is Kingston's city-wide celebration of the legacy of The Tragically Hip, marking 10 years since the band's final hometown concert on August 20, 2016. Throughout August, with the main celebrations taking place August 20–22, visitors can enjoy live music, film screenings, walking tours, public art, local merchandise, and special events that reflect the band's connection to Kingston.

2. What's happening during the Forever Hip anniversary weekend (August 20–22)?

The main celebrations take place in Springer Market Square over three days:

Thursday, August 20
Rockin' the Square sponsored by Empire Life featuring Choir! Choir! Choir!, along with performances by Miss Emily, The Abrams, and members of Kasador.

Friday, August 21
Forever Hip in the Square includes music walking tours, archival footage, a local merchandise market, and a free screening of Long Time Running.

Saturday, August 22
Concert viewing party of CBC's The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration commemorates the band's final concert in Kingston.

3. Do I need tickets for the Forever Hip events?

No. The signature Forever Hip events in Springer Market Square from August 20–22 are free and open to everyone. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early for evening programming.

4. What are some must-see Forever Hip experiences beyond the events?

Visitors can explore Kingston's Tragically Hip landmarks, including downtown murals, the Creative Music Walking Tours, and locations connected to the band's history in the city. The Music From Miles Around sponsored by Empire Life exhibition at Kingston City Hall's Market Square Cultural Space offers another way to learn more about the band's story. Exclusive Forever Hip merchandise is also available at the Visitor Information Centre at 209 Ontario Street.
