The Best Places in Kingston If You’re Craving Chocolate

By Kate Farrell

No matter how our day is going, no matter what is going on in the world; we can all agree that things will be okay as long as there is a dark, delicious, cocoa-creation that exists. That’s right, chocolate. It’s the solution to the worries in your life, the thing that can cheer up even the sourest soul, and the symbol of love used for holidays on end. Are we romanticizing it? Probably. Is it still delicious? One thousand percent.

With Kingston being a known foodie hub, it’s no surprise that there are those who have dedicated their careers to crafting the finest cocoa for you to indulge in, you just have to know where to look. And luckily, we did that for you. Here are the fine folks in Kingston that are making our days much more delicious, all you have to do is decide which one to go to first!

Cocoa Bistro

840 Development Drive

Audrey Brown is the mastermind chocolatier behind this local favourite. Her innovative chocolate creations make her a stand out among the crowd, with decadent flavours like Limoncello Basil, Vanilla Bean Ganache, Rosemary Honey and more. She also does custom orders to please the most selective chocolate connoisseur. Trained at Ecole Chocolat, she uses only the most high-quality Belgian chocolate. If you’re looking for a special, customizable experience (that can even be paired with other local businesses like spas, florists etc.), make sure to order online or check out their Facebook page to stay updated on their upcoming markets and events.

General Brock’s Commissary

86 Brock Street

General Brock’s Commissary is the local, wholesome store you can always count on. Steeped in tradition (it’s named after General Sir Isaac Brock and is located just seconds from the original commissary of Upper Canada from the war of 1812), they are known for their amazing curated collection of specialty foods from artisan cheese, specialty meats and of course, delicious chocolates. Their chocolates come from Ridgeway Confections in Seeley’s Bay, and Mrs. B’s Country Candy, Bellissima. All we can say is thank you for bringing these beautiful treats straight to Kingston!

Cócó Chocolate Company

Online and at various markets, keep updated on their Facebook page

For those who like their chocolate pure, head to Cócó Chocolate Company. They make their decadent bars straight from organic cacao beans, organic cane sugar and organic cacao butter sourced fair trade from the Dominican Republic and Peru. If that’s not good enough they also hand sort the beans, roast and stone grind them for up to 60 hours, meaning you get the best of the natural flavour without a bitter taste. Try out one (or all) of their amazing flavours like the 70% with Achill Island sea salt, the Beer bar, and more.

Cooke’s Fine Foods

61 Brock Street

One of the chicest places in Kingston, this is a foodie paradise. Since 1865 Cooke’s has been giving Kingston a unique shopping experience with authentic Victorian decor, handcrafted gift baskets, fine cheeses, “old world” foods, and, surprise, an amazing selection of chocolates! For a special occasion (Holidays, Birthdays, maybe just a treat-yourself-Wednesday), you have to get their Chocolate Lovers gift basket.

Make sure to check out their Prince Edward County connection and visit their second location in Picton at 280 Main Street!

Must Love Chocolate

1786 Bath Road

This little chocolate and cake shop has won over Kingston’s hearts with their amazing service that makes you feel like one of the family the second you walk in the store. Kim and her team make high-quality handcrafted confections and custom chocolates for any occasion. The only issue you’ll have here is deciding which treat to eat first. Some fan favourites include the chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate dipped sour keys, bark and salted caramel chocolates.

Cocoa 70

340 King Street East

If you’re looking for an elaborate chocolate experience, head to Cocoa 70. Just seconds away from Market Square this date night favourite has locations all around the country. Their menu came straight out of our dreams; chocolate marshmallow pizzas, strawberry and cheesecake crepes, chocolate hazelnut pizzas, a huge variety of chocolate waffles and crepes, ice cream splits, fondues, five versions of thick, delicious hot chocolate and more!
