Basic Free-Motion Sewing Machine Embroidery Workshop

Participants will explore the exciting technique of Free-Motion Machine Embroidery on various materials to achieve complex effects and fun creative results. Using a sewing machine, an embroidery/darning foot, a variety of sewing threads and more, you'll turn common materials from flat to dimensional, smooth to textural, dull into dynamic.

You will quickly master basic free-motion embroidery stitches such as straight, circle, zigzag, and more. Applications will include both representational "drawn by stitch" methods, such as objects, nature and portraits, “painting with thread” techniques, and abstract applications.

Basic sewing machine skills, a working sewing machine, and an embroidery/darning foot for your machine are necessary. (If unsure, reach out before registering.)

Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace, and the process of exploration and the development of creative growth will be highly encouraged. Through instruction, shared connections, and idea exchanges with classmates, students will expand their repertoire of surface design skills in a supportive environment.

Every student will complete the workshop with a finished piece to display or continue working on at home.
