Museums and Attractions
1 Fort Henry Drive
Tour Ontario’s 19th-century British military fort. Experience self-guided tours through a UNESCO world Heritage Site or watch a military demonstration emulating those performed by soldiers in the 1800s.
If you’re up for some thrills with your teens, in the month of October you can experience Fort Fright when the military stronghold turns into a haunted house.
23 Ontario Street
Explore Kingston's first steam pump equipment, which provided water to Kingstonians starting in 1851. Now a museum, the PumpHouse hosts a variety of family-friendly exhibitions and science-based activities. Learn about the large-scale industrial water pumps or admire the multi-level train that your kiddos can set in motion by the push of a button.
414 Regent Street, Barriefield
There are plenty of things to explore at the Frontenac County Schools Museum. The museum hosts a gallery of school textbooks, artefacts, memorabilia, and photographs—you may even identify a great-grandparent! Additionally, the schoolroom itself is set in the style of a one-room rural schoolhouse from the 1900s to the 1930s. The desks and artefacts were collected from the schools that used to exist in the countryside around Kingston. You can sit at a wooden desk, write on a slate with a slate pencil, or browse through old Ontario readers. Visit their website for more information.
LaSalle Mews, 303 Bagot Street (Suite 16B)
Offering online and indoor and outdoor escape rooms, Improbable Escapes is fun for the entire family! They boast a variety of themed escape rooms from zombies to wizards and offer outdoor escape rooms where you’ll get to explore Kingston’s limestone architecture while solving a puzzle. Check out their website for their full list of activities.
If you don’t want to participate in a high-stakes escape room, visit Improbable Escapes Wonderland (500 Gardiners Road, Unit 2A)—a café home to over 450 board games, as well as snacks and drinks.
