Want to pitch your story?

Kingston Film & Media and the Kingston Canadian Film Festival are excited to offer the opportunity to five writers, producers or directors to pitch their original unscripted or scripted film or series idea to a panel of industry experts who will provide real-world feedback and expertise.

Winner announced at KCFF Awards Party: March 1, 2026

Program Requirements:

  • You must have a strong concept that is fully realized, but which needs extra help getting market ready.
  • You must be open to constructive criticism.
  • Story originality, quality of writing, and submissions representing creators with a range of experience, as well as those from historically underrepresented backgrounds, will be strongly considered.
  • From Kingston or the surrounding region. Please see below for further details. 

Five finalists will be contacted by December 15, 2025.

All five jury selected finalists will receive and be required to attend:

  • KCFF 2026 Industry passes to network at Creative Industries Day and enjoy the films and events throughout the festival
  • A workshop on how to get your project pitch ready hosted by an industry expert. Date in late January - TBD
  • A live pitch on Friday, February 27, 2026, in front of an audience and industry panel at KCFF

The winner will receive:

  • Up to two virtual meetings with a producer from Shaftesbury Entertainment on their concept, with help on how to pitch to a wider professional market at TIFF and Prime Time, hosted by the Canadian Media Producers Association.
  • Up to two virtual meetings with the Kingston Film & Media team to get you ready for TIFF and Prime Time industry events and one-on-one sessions with decision makers at these key industry events.
  • A conference pass for Prime Time, Ottawa, January 2027, plus accommodation, train travel, and per diem.
  • TIFF Market Industry Pass on September 2026

Submission requirements

Who can apply?

This program is available for those who: 

  • Currently reside in Kingston or within Southeastern Ontario (Prince Edward County to Cornwall), or
  • Have attended post-secondary school in Kingston, or
  • Have previously lived in Kingston for a minimum of five years

Individual submissions only. If a filmmaker wishes to ask their producer to apply for them, they may wish to do so. 

 

Submission Materials

  • Logline: A one to two sentence summary of your story.
  • Synopsis: An in-depth summary of your story, including the storyline, major plot points and key characters. (Max. 2000 characters)
  • Professional materials: A professional bio and one link or document (website, portfolio, cv, IMDB profile, LinkedIn profile, demo reel link)
  • Headshots: The team may use these for promotional purposes, social media, and web profiles.
  • Supplemental materials and supporting documents (optional):
    • TV series or web/digital series: three to six-page pitch bible with a one-pager, character bios, and series arc/episode synopses;
    • Feature or doc: two-page treatment demonstrating strong, compelling story arc;
    • Short film: completed script;
    • Animated project: concept design or storyboards and one–two pages about the project (e.g. short, series, feature), laying out its story/season arc.

We strongly encourage you to submit supporting documents as this will strengthen your submission. Please DO NOT submit the following:

  • Video materials
  • Full feature-length scripts. 

If you do have a completed feature script, you may provide an excerpt that you feel best represents the project.
