Waawaateg: Northern Lights and Indigenous Storytelling in Confederation Park

Waawaateg [meaning ‘there is a display of the northern lights’ in Anishinaabemowin-Ojibway] features an interactive light installation in Confederation Park representing the Northern Lights along with five unique art installations created by Indigenous artists and storytellers featuring their understandings, stories and creative arts to the world.

Immerse yourself in the telling of Indigenous-inspired stories told using a combination of original art and audio recordings featuring Ontario-based Indigenous artists and storytellers. Use your phone to scan a QR code on each piece of art and enjoy an audio recording or written transcript of the stories that inspired the artist’s work.

Join us for the Waawaateg Opening Ceremony March 10th at 6:30 PM in Confederation Park. There will be Indigenous food, vendors and a performance by Tarniriik, a throat singing duo who have performed at many high profile events in Canada. Scroll down to see more!

This interactive light and sound experience opens in downtown Kingston March 10th until March 31st.
