Jay, formerly known as “Smitty Kingston”, is a solo artist from Kingston, Ontario! He has played thousands of shows over a 25 year span and has shared the stage with great musicians like The Tragically Hip, Tom Cochrane, Blue Rodeo, Kim Mitchell, David Wilcox, Dan Aykroyd and more. He has played hundreds of shows over the past 20 years with his bands 49 Stares, Crooked Rain, The Furleys and The Tonekats. He hosted a long 22 year solo house gig on Sunday nights at The Brass Pub in Kingston.
He now shares his time between Nashville and Canada to write, record and perform. He has released 4 solo records and is currently working on a new album with famed Toronto producer Derek Downham which features Kelly Prescott on vocals! Bringing country back, one tune at a time…
Smitty was affected by the tragedy of the Humboldt Broncos in 2018, not only as someone who is passionate about hockey but as a father and a Canadian. As a way of trying to deal with the heartache, he took to his guitar to pen an emotional expression as his way of letting go some of the heartbreak…the result of that is his song “Stick Out By The Door”. It went viral in Canada and he performed it at the televised funeral.
