1. Olivea

39 Brock Street

When craving a bowl of carbonara, this family-owned restaurant in downtown Kingston, is a foodie’s dream come true. Don’t forget the arancini balls or a glass of wine to complete your meal.

2. Tango Nuevo

331 King Street East

This is a cozy spot for great tapas and drinks with friends. The Su Pastry and Charcuterie Board featuring local meats and cheeses are a great showcase of the region. If you have a special occasion, you can even dine in their private dining room and wine cellar, La Bodega.

3. The Kingston Waterfront

The Kingston Waterfront might not see much traffic during the colder months, but when spring and summer hit, one of Kingston’s favourite attractions starts to comes alive! Some of my favourite things include kayaking, paddling the stores, strolls, Confederation Park, Breakwater Park, and views from Juniper Cafe.

4. Bread & Butter

1530 Bath Road

Check out Bread & Butter bakery for some of the best desserts in Kingston (especially buttercream cakes!). This west-end gem is also connected to its sister-shop Toast and Jam. If you’re in the mood for delicious brunch, lunch or breakfast – this is the place to go!

5. Bella Bistro

4050 Bath Road

If you ever have one of those days where you don’t want to cook – check out Bella Bistro. This local joint serves up comfort foods including pizza, pasta, panini, and more. When you’re not up to eating out, you can stop by the Bella Market for fresh prepared meals and desserts to take home.

6. Northside Espresso + Kitchen

281 Princess Street

When you’re looking for the perfect Sunday brunch spot, Northside espresso + kitchen packs the punch. A classic go-to is their Avo Smash – a whole smashed avocado with feta, mint, lemon + Thai chilli on grilled sourdough (they have vegan and gluten-free options available as well!)

7. Access to Local Food: Salt of the Earth Farm

1054 Highway 2 East

Salt of the Earth Farm shares veggies weekly during the summer months (late June through late October – with an optional extension that runs to Christmas). Getting to know the farmers and knowing where your food comes from has been amazing. We have been part of this veggie share for the past 5 years.

8. The Rich History of Kingston

It’s no secret that Kingston is steeped in History. Some of my favourite spots are Fort Henry (one of the best views of the Kingston skyline), Kingston Penitentiary (a great tour for anyone interested in Canadian history, criminology, or just unusual places and experiences) City Hall, and Bellevue House (one of the most beautiful gardens to walk through in Kingston).

9. Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market

If you’re looking for the perfect Sunday morning activity, try strolling through the Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market. All products are grown and produced in the Kingston foodshed – within about 100km of the market; the perfect way to support local businesses and farmers. In the summer months, keep your eyes out for nighttime markets and events!

10. Indie Music Scene

Kingston is known for its vibrant music scene. From The Grad Club to Wolfe Island Music Fest, Kingston has welcomed several great bands including Yukon Blond, Zeus, Lost Cousins, The Stares and more. For a list of shows, articles, and even a dedicated podcast to the music scene, check out the music page.

Describe Kingston in 3 words: Passionate, Vibrant, Charming

If Kingston had a theme song, what would be it be? The Tragically Hip “Ahead By A Century”

Complete the sentence: Kingston makes me… feel at home. Originally from Montreal, Quebec – I now call Kingston my adoptive hometown. Its charming character, friendly community and amazing food scene are just some of the reasons why I have fallen in love.
