6 Romantic Sides Of Kingston You’ve Been Missing

By Kate Farrell

Maybe it’s the winds of Lake Ontario that bring in that feeling of romance, or the fact that our town square is one of the most classically beautiful spots in Canada. Whatever it is, you can’t deny it — Kingston is a romantic city. From the special events, live music, intimate bars and coffee shops galore, there’s an endless list of places to take your number one out for a fantastic adventure.

But we’re not just talking about any old experience. That’s right, there’s no need for you or your bae to have to settle for a basic night out (as if). Luckily in Kingston it won’t cost you a fortune to go the extra mile. We’re a city rich in diversity and experiences, most right in front of you, you just have to know where to look. And obviously, we already did that for you (you’re welcome). All you have to do is pick which romantic spot to take your significant other and cue the love songs.

1. Take a walk through the enchanting Lumina Borealis

Thought you knew Fort Henry? Think again. Back for its third year, Lumina Borealis is transforming Kingston’s National Historic Site into an enchanting, magical, winter wonderland. Take them through this winter walk to see an unbelievable interactive light, art, and music show. It’s a truly unique experience that’ll even light a new spark in your love life!

2. Go beyond your basic dinner date with Kingston Food Tours

Sure, you can cook some pasta, but Kingston Food Tours is swooping in to add the sauce. Kingston Food Tours is ready and willing to take your dinner to the next level. They take you through the winding streets of downtown Kingston to visit unique and local shops, restaurants, artisans, and farmers. Pick from one of their amazing tours, Beer & Bites or Classic Kingston. Try out one of their special February tours like the Beer and Tapas Tour (Sunday, February 25th), or Whiskey and Tapas Tour (Sunday February, 4th) for a unique experience.

3. Skate in Springer Market Square then indulge in Cacao 70

Is there really a better combination than chocolate and skating? You can’t lose sipping a cup of the legendary Cacao 70 Factory Hot Chocolate. After a free skate in front of picturesque town hall, head to Cacao 70 to indulge in fondue, waffles, chocolate and obviously, each others company — sounding like a rom-com yet? Here’s all the info you need for skating at Springer Market Square.

4. Brunch at Northside Espresso + Kitchen

If you haven’t seen this recently opened, Melbourne, Australia inspired cafe + kitchen in person, you’ve definitely seen it on Instagram. It’s home to not only some of the nicest brunch aesthetics in Kingston but also meals inspired by the iconic cafe culture in Melbourne. Take your special someone out to this unique spot and enjoy some quality time together over brunch.

5. Musiikki Whiskey and Live Music Date

With all the intimate and beautiful cafes in Kingston, it’s no wonder this city is so romantic. One those cafes leading the love? Musiikki. A hip, cool spot tucked away on Brock St, it’s simply coffee by day and whiskey by night. They even managed to make this place more interesting by adding in live music every single night. Whether you’re in the mood for Jazz Night on Monday, Open Mic on Tuesdays, or an individual artist (schedule here), you’ll have an amazing time cozying up in this romantic cafe.

6. Have a mini getaway and stay at one of Kingston’s best hotels

We may be a small city, but our hospitality scene has proven time and time again that we can rival the big city getaways. With all the charm in Kingston, staying in one of these beautiful spots may just open you up to a different side of the city you thought you knew so well. Spend some quality time with your significant other, order room service, wear those insanely comfy robes, walk through the cobblestone streets, it’s a romance movie waiting to happen.

For a more intimate, historic feel try the Hochelaga Inn, the Secret Garden Inn, the Rosemount Inn & Spa, or the All Suites Whitney Manor. If you’re looking for more of a big lights, big city feel, try out the Delta Hotels by Marriott Kingston Waterfront, or the Four Points By Sheraton.
